Kathie Jackson had a much better showing in her second trip to the national Travelers Curling Club Championships.
Jackson and her Fort Frances-based rink of third Teresa McFayden, second Leanne Eluik, and lead Jackie McCormick fell 9-8 in an extra end to Alberta in the bronze-medal game of the women’s division Saturday morning in Ottawa.
Northern Ontario scored three in the first end but had to rally from a 7-4 deficit after five ends with a deuce in the eighth to force the extra one.
Alberta, with hammer, notched a single to seal the win.
Jackson and McFayden went 1-5 at the former Dominion Curling Club Championships national playdowns in 2013.
But that experience helped spur the rink to a 5-1 record during round-robin play this time around to finish in second place in Pool ‘B.’
The locals then blanked Saskatchewan 9-0 in six ends in their first-round cross-over playoff match-up Friday.
That put Jackson’s foursome in the semi-finals later in the day against P.E.I., who prevailed 6-2 over Northern Ontario.
P.E.I. went on to win the title with a 5-3 win over Ontario in the gold-medal final Saturday.
