Idrissou sparks Manitou to win

Four scores and 90 minutes ago, Pharmasave had a plan to try and contain Ahmadou Idrissou.
Keeping some of the evening’s earlier lightning in a bottle may have been easier to achieve.
Idrissou went past, over, around, and through Pharmasave’s defence to notch all his team’s goals in a 4-0 victory for Manitou Forest Products in Borderland Soccer League men’s division action last night.
After drilling an early tally, Idrissou took a pass across and busted in alone in the 20th minute before hammering the ball top-shelf past Pharmasave keeper Josh Bye for a 2-0 lead for division-leading Manitou (9-1-2).
Last-place Pharmasave (0-10-2) didn’t do itself any favours when Idrissou was dragged down just inside the top of the 18-yard box in the 40th minute.
Idrissou tried the strategy of kicking it towards the middle of the net in anticipation of Bye diving one way or the other, but the bearded keeper held his ground and made a leaping save by thrusting his arms out to punch the ball away.
Unfortunately for Bye, his heroics went for naught as Idrissou was left unchecked to jump on the rebound and cream a shot from in close to make it 3-0.
Pharmasave played a much better second half, putting significant pressure on the Manitou net.
But each time they managed to squeeze a shot through, keeper James Pavier was there to make the save.
Idrissou finished his night with the best of his bunch in the 80th minute.
He took a pass in the Pharmasave zone and neatly booted the ball over one outstretched defender, then turned on a dime to cut inside on a second one right behind the first.
With nothing but daylight between him and Bye, Idrissou pounded a shot to the upper part of the net from 10 feet out for his league-leading 15th goal of the season to put him well on his way to defending his goal scoring title of a year ago.
Pavier earned the shutout—his third in the past four games and his league-high sixth of the season—as Manitou ran its winning streak to four games and its unbeaten streak to seven.
Manitou will look to keep its run going this Tuesday when it faces second-place International Travel Services (4-2-4).
Pharmasave, meanwhile, will meet the third-place La Place Rendez-Vous U18 Voyageurs (4-4-2).
Both games start at 7 p.m.
