Ice Dogs maul Sabres

Another chapter of the Fort Frances Jr. Sabres’ rivalry with the Dryden Ice Dogs ended in the usual way last night, with the Dogs thrashing the visiting Sabres 6-3.
The Sabres (4-11-2-3) actually had a 3-1 lead halfway through the second period on goals by JP Boucha, Brendan Baumgardtner, and Kyle Turgeon.
But the top-ranked Ice Dogs (14-6-0-0) then blew the game wide open with five unanswered goals.
Colin McIntosh, Dryden’s captain and the SIJHL’s player-of-the-month for October, netted a hat trick and two assists to take the league’s scoring race from Sabres’ captain Quinn Amiel.
Amiel was held pointless last night.
Mitch Cain notched two assists for the Sabres while goalie Ryan Faragher, playing in his fifth-straight game, made 22 saves on 28 shots.
The game was the Sabres’ sixth-straight on the road.
They return to the friendly confines of the Memorial Sports Centre this weekend to play a two-game series with the Marathon Renegades (6-10-1-0), who are in fifth place in the standings but are tied with the sixth-place Sabres in points.
