They were the top team after the round-robin in their home rink, so having unbeaten and virtually unbeatable opponents standing in their way wasn’t about to scare them off.
The Fort Frances IBEW hockey squad pulled off a major upset by beating the Westfort Rangers (Thunder Bay) 6-3 in the final of the 12-team PeeWee ‘A’ tournament here Nov. 21-23.
The Rangers had not lost this season and were the top-ranked PeeWee ‘A’ team in Thunder Bay. But they had no answer for IBEW’s Brendan Cawston, who lit Westfort up for all six of his team’s goals.
Meanwhile, Fort Frances Colonels made sure all the top hardware stayed home as they won the ‘B’ final with a 7-5 win over the Emo Thunderbolts.
Mike Jourdain had a hat trick for the victors in that one while Justin Rose added a pair. Jason Rose and Dakota Sisco rounded out the scoring.
Tim Sharp had a hat trick in a losing effort for Emo, with Ryan Kaemingh and Colin Kaemingh adding singles.
