The local Dynamic Homes Hurricanes were dealt a pair of tough losses in the 10U-B 2010 Best of Times Fargo Girls International Hockey Classic there over the weekend.
Both were to the Grand Forks Angels—and would decide the championship.
The Hurricanes fell to the Angels 3-2 to open the tournament, with Maighyn DeGagne pacing the attack with both goals.
Dynamic Homes then rebounded, weathering the Bismarck Storm by a 5-3 margin to even their record at 1-1.
Alyssa Alderson recorded a hat trick in that one while Emma Noga and Lillie MacKinnon notched singles.
The next game established the Hurricanes as title contenders, as they thumped Fergus Falls 10-0.
Noga spearheaded the attack with four goals while Alderson netted a pair.
Taylor Crosswell, DeGagne, MacKinnon, and Siobhan MacKintosh rounded out the scoring.
That win meant the Hurricanes were right back where they started—facing the Grand Forks Angels but with the title on the line this time.
Alderson opened the scoring for the Hurricanes in the second period, but the Angels knotted things up later in the frame.
After a scoreless third, the two teams were forced to work overtime to decide a champion.
Grand Forks dashed the Hurricanes’ hopes early in the extra period to claim the title.
