Three Ignace men have been fined a total of $900 for leaving their camping units on Crown land over the winter.
Joey Parker, Nathan Naumann, and Keith Zappitelli were convicted under the Public Lands Act and fined $300 each for their unauthorized use of Crown land in Dryden District.
Ministry of Natural Resources’ conservation officers discovered three camping units in different locations in the Ignace area during the fall of 2008 and winter of 2009.
The campsites had been used by their owners during the 2008 moose hunting season and left in place over the winter.
The ministry reminds the public that Canadian residents may camp free of charge on Crown land for up to 21 days at one site, except where posted otherwise.
After this time, camping units must be moved a minimum distance of 100 metres from the original site.
