A Fort Frances resident has been fined $1,200 for charges related to illegal deer hunting.
James Carlson was convicted under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and fined $1,200 for failing to immediately attach a game seal to a harvested animal.
Court heard that on Oct. 30, Ministry of Natural Resources’ conservation officers contacted Carlson at a private home on Ball Road in Shenston Township.
Carlson was standing beside a freshly-killed deer without a game seal attached, as required by law.
The deer’s untagged head and hide were lying on the ground.
Carlson told officers he could not attach his game seal to the animal because he was allergic to deer hide.
Officers inspected his camera and found three photos of Carlson wearing gloves and posing with the deer head and antlers.
The deer and Carlson’s game seal were seized and forfeited to the Crown.
Carlson’s gun was seized and will be returned once his fine is paid.
Justice of the Peace Pat Clysdale-Cornell heard the case March 11 in Fort Frances.
