Call them The Magnificent Seven.
A group of riders saddled up for a good cause this past weekend as part of the Borderland Quarter Horse Association’s (BQHA) annual horse show at the Emo fairgrounds.
Devlin residents Riley Caul and Rey Chartier were joined by Emo’s Paige McNally and Tracey Haglin, Thunder Bay’s Noni Almond, Dryden’s Desiree McGogy and Oxdrift’s Carol Diehl in the Walk-Trot Charity Class at this year’s show.
The septet raised a total of $920 which will go toward the chosen charity for this year’s event, the Fort Frances Community Chest.
“It’s great that a group of people who do not normally compete in regular horse shows would come together to raise money for a great cause,” said BQHA show manager Angela Halvorsen.
“The money stays right in the community and helps people in the district. $920 is amazing for the number of people involved,” she added.
American Quarter Horse Association judge Gary Werner of Lees Summit, MO rated the participants on their efforts, with Almond receiving top marks for her performance.
She was presented with a special plaque by award creator and BQHA club member Maureen Hanson.
“It’s nice of (Hanson) to be able to make and donate the plaque,” said Halvorsen.

•Jerry Nanik Memorial Award, Champion of Champions, Youth Trail—Good Pretense, owned and showed by Molly Gallant (Sioux Lookout);
•High Point Green Horse—Fame Is In The Luck, owned by Tammy Paquette (Murillo), shown by Amanda Paquette (Dryden);
•High Point Junior Horse—Deck Of A Cuiton, owned and showed by Kaija LeCocq (Murillo);
•High Point Senior Horse—Good Pretense;
