The Tracy Horgan rink, which features Devlin curler Jenna Enge at second, opened the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts playdowns in Kenora on a losing note last night.
The Sudbury crew dropped a 9-7 extra-end decision to Jenn Hanna of Ottawa.
Heading into the 10th end, Hanna held a 7-5 lead after stealing a point in the ninth.
But Horgan was able to score the deuce she needed with her final rock to force an extra end.
With the hammer in the 11th, Hanna, the runner-up in the 2005 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, made no mistakes as she scored two to secure the win.
Marlo Dahl (Thunder Bay), Krista McCarville (Thunder Bay), Alison Nimik (St. Thomas), and Laura Pickering (North Bay) also lost their opening matches to sit at 0-1 heading into play today.
Tied with Hanna after the first draw of the nine-game round-robin were Cathy Auld (Mississauga), Kathy Brown (Schomberg), Sherry Middaugh (Coldwater), and defending champ Rachel Homan (Ottawa).
Horgan went up against Auld today at 2 p.m., then will play Middaugh at 7 p.m.
Round-robin play continues through Friday, with the final slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The winner will represent Ontario at this year’s Scotties, which will take place Feb. 18-26 in Red Deer, Alta.
