Hoopsters win again

The Muskie senior and junior boys’ basketball teams kept up their undefeated records as the first half of their NorWOSSA seasons closed—each winning over the host Kenora Broncos on Tuesday.
The seniors (3-0) rolled to a 65-44 victory, with Travis Stromness leading the way with 18 points.
Morgan Anderson and Jeremy Strain contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively.
“Overall, I thought the guys played pretty well, although we did get a lot of fouls, a lot of reaching fouls, which were sort of needless,” said head coach Paul Noonan.
Noonan said the bench was a bit thin between players in foul trouble and those who had tweaked ankles from a men’s league game the previous night, keeping the score closer than it should have been.
“We’re going to have to improve on [our foul trouble] if we’re going to go further,” he stressed.
Also improving to a 3-0 record in NorWOSSA play were the junior boys, who won their match by a 51-35 score.
Chris Legg led the attack with 14 while Josh Strain netted 12 and Justin Anderson nine.
“We’ve still got a lot of work to do, but it was good,” head coach Greg Ste. Croix said.
On the volleyball court, the Muskie junior girls improved their NorWOSSA record to 2-1 by sweeping the host Broncos on Tuesday, taking the best-of-five match by scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-15.
But the senior girls lost in four sets to fall to 0-3 in league play. They won the opening set 25-22, but then dropped the next three by scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-12.
Due to the Christmas break, the court teams won’t resume NorWOSSA action until Jan. 8 (back in Kenora), but both the senior and junior basketball teams will play exhibition matches today at Fort High.
The juniors will stage their black-and-gold split-squad game at 3:30 p.m., followed by the seniors’ alumni game at 5 p.m.
