The girls’ basketball teams kept soaring, the junior boys’ volleyball squad was jumping, but the senior boys remained grounded.
That was the day in a nutshell for the Muskie court teams yesterday in Kenora as the black-and-gold posted three wins in four tries against the host Broncos.
The senior girls were taken down to the wire by the Broncos (0-1) before pulling out a 30-28 win to improve to 2-0.
Grade 12 veterans Maisie Fichuk and Keira Lindgren led the way, being selected as their team’s top players by Muskie co-coaches Dan Bird and Mike Krueger.
Sarah Bagacki led the Muskies with eight points, while Fichuk and Lindgren had six apiece.
The junior girls (2-0) also kept up their winning ways with a 38-21 pounding of Kenora (0-1).
Lindsay Dixon led all scorers with 18 points while Muskie co-coach Marla Knutsen also cited Claire Hyatt for having a strong game.
In boys’ volleyball action, the junior Muskies (1-1) rallied from a one-set deficit to beat the Broncos (0-1) by a 3-1 margin (17-25, 25-23, 26-24, and 25-22).
The lone Fort High crew to come home empty-handed was the senior squad, which was swept 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, and 25-16) to fall to 0-2 on the season.
The Muskies return to NorWOSSA action next Thursday (Oct. 3) in Dryden against the Eagles.
Their next home action is slated for Oct. 8 against the Broncos.
