Last Thursday afternoon the Fort Frances Muskie football team got their first win of the season with a dominating 49 – 6 win over West Kildonan from Winnipeg in their homecoming game.
West Kildonan entered the game undefeated and in first place in the Currie Division of the Winnipeg HS Football League.
The Muskies started out fast jumping out to a 22-0 lead after the first quarter. After a scoreless second quarter the Muskies exploded for another 21 more points in the third quarter to stretch their lead to 43-0.
Grade 10 running back Blake Kreger scored four touchdowns. Kreger opened the scoring with first quarter touchdowns from 7 and 6 yards and closed the scoring on the last play of the game running the ball in from 40 yards out. Running back Kel Cameron also scored on an 8 yard run.
Muskie quarterback Parker Booth threw two touchdown passes to Junior receiver Hayden Beckett. Beckett kicked 5 converts and scored 2 singles on long kickoffs.
The Muskie defense smothered West Kildonan, forced several turnovers and did not surrender a point until there were only four minutes left in the game.
The win raises the Muskies record to 1 – 3.
The Muskies next game is in Winnipeg on Friday against St. John’s High School.
