Hockey festival planned

Hockey Northwestern Ontario is proud to announce its selection to host the “Chevrolet Safe and Fun Hockey Festival” in Thunder Bay from June 15-17.
This grassroots hockey program will feature some of the game’s greatest ambassadors coming to town, including Hockey Hall of Fame member Bobby Orr and two-time Olympic gold-medalist Cassie Campbell.
The “Chevrolet Safe and Fun Hockey Festivals” are geared towards young hockey players aged five-eight, their parents, and their coaches.
The event offers both on- and off-ice instruction stressing the importance of healthy competition, fair play, teamwork, and grace under pressure.
Fostering the philosophy of respect and responsibility, the event also will have a “Parent Approach” seminar targeted to adult involvement in hockey and providing positive learning environments.
The seminar is the official National Parent Education Program of Hockey Canada.
The festival is expected to have about 100-110 children participating. Selection will be made through a balloting process conducted by General Motors of Canada.
All Hockey Canada-registered players will be receiving a ballot in the mail from Hockey Canada.
General Motors of Canada and Hockey Canada are in the eighth season of “Chevrolet Safe and Fun Hockey,” with programs reaching more than 37,000 young players across the country.
