With only 17 days left until the official voting period starts for CBC’s “Hockey Night in Canada Anthem Challenge,” entries no longer are being accepted for upload.
In the meantime, people have been rating their favourites with fervent dedication. In mere hours, for instance, a contender will go from having been rated 5.00/5.00 to 3.00/5.00 and back up again.
Many of the submissions are much better than others, leading voters to believe that people entered the competition to replace the longtime HNIC theme as a joke.
But to local elementary school teacher and musician Jim Newman, this certainly wasn’t.
His anthem contender, entitled “60 seconds to Game Time,” a tune he personally described as “a classic, brass-laden build-up to the game,” totalled in with a most recent score of 2.40/5.00 (the highest opponent currently on the board sits at 3.00/5.00).
Newman’s entry is ranked 178th out of an astonishing 14,542 entries after following 31 others with the same 2.40/5.00 ranking.
Just two days ago, it was ranked 26th after peaking at 22nd (as far as the Times has noticed).
Shortly before the voting period starts Oct. 4, CBC will narrow down the submissions to the “Top Contenders.” Until then, HNIC fans are being asked to rate their favourite piece in order to ensure it makes it to the voting round.

You first must be registered with the site, but it is a highly non-invasive process that can be done in mere minutes.
With a prize of $100,000 up for grabs for the winner, not to mention half the royalties plus bragging rights, needless to say the competition is getting heated.
People are voting multiple times for the song they want to win. Frankly, it’s a dog-eat-dog challenge, with only one musician coming out on top.
So get to the site, rate your favourites regularly, and hopefully it will yield some results.
