‘Hike, bike’ challenge returning

Press Release

During the month of June, the Northwestern Health Unit is challenging people to park the car and walk, hike, bike, or roll.
Register to be a part of the annual “Hike It or Bike It Challenge,” then track your walking, wheeling, and rolling for a chance to win one of five new bikes and other great prize packs.
“‘Hike It or Bike It’ promotes active transportation,” said local health promoter Elaine Fischer.
“It’s about getting from place to place in an active way instead of by vehicle.
“Using our bodies, especially for short trips, is great for our health and for the environment,” she noted.
“Ride your bike to work, walk to the grocery store, walk to get coffee, or use your bike or scooter to get to school.
“This challenge is for everyone–encourage your family, friends, or co-workers to join you,” Fischer added.
Close to 400 participants from across the region completed last year’s challenge and took steps to model a healthier, more active lifestyle for others.
We can all “do one thing’ for a healthier lifestyle and community–each small, healthy step adds up.
To register and pick up or print a tracking calendar, stop by any health unit office location, visit www.nwhu.on.ca, or call 1-800-830-5978.
Completed tracking calendars can be returned to your local health unit office by June 20.
Only participants from communities in the NWU’s catchment area will be eligible for prizes.
