The opportunity to be part of a special night in this town’s sporting history has arrived.
Tickets for the second induction ceremonies of the Fort Frances Sports Hall of Fame, taking place Aug. 12 at La Place Rendez-Vous, are now on sale.
Costing $35 each, they can be purchased at Taggs/Source for Sports.
They also can be acquired through Barb Ogden either by phone (274-5195), mail (903 Third St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 1S2), or e-mail money transfer (missdaisymae@shaw.ca).
A Facebook page for Fort Frances Sports Hall of Fame also has been created for anyone wanting more information.
The event will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the awards ceremony to follow.
Entering the hall this year in the athlete category is baseball pitcher David Brockie, with Jim and Glenn Witherspoon (junior hockey) and Scott Clendenning (high school and minor hockey) going in as part of the builders’ category.
As for the teams’ category, the 1958 boys’ curling rink skipped by Peter McLeod, which won the Manitoba Schoolboys Curling Championships, and the 1980 Muskie senior girls’ basketball team that won the NorWOSSA and NWOSSAA titles will be inducted.
Also joining the local hall by virtue of their recent induction into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in Thunder Bay will be former CFL player Jeff Treftlin and ex-NHL’er and Canadian Olympian Chris Lindberg.
