Hahkala leads Manitou over CJ

A two-goal performance from Nick Hahkala is just what the doctor ordered as Manitou Forest Products edged CJ Contracting 2-1 in Borderland Soccer League men’s division action last night at the St. Francis Sports Field.
Ian Jodoin’s first-half goal for CJ (2-5-2) held up until the second half when Hahkala tallied his first of the night when Jacob Albright misplayed his shot and had it slip through his legs and into the net to knot it at 1-1.
Then with time winding down, Hahkala wound up and fired home a one-timer from in close past Albright to give Manitou (2-5-1) the winner.
Mark Faragher earned the win in goal for Manitou.
Manitou is slated to face first-place Centra Pipelines (8-2-1) in a make-up game tonight at 7 p.m. at the St. Francis Sports Field (weather permitting).
There will be no games on Monday due to the Civic holiday.
In women’s division action on Tuesday night, meanwhile, La Place Rendez-Vous got back into the win column with a narrow 5-4 win over Al’s Racquet Stringing.
Jaida Norris and Maggie Jean both scored twice for the Vous (6-2-1) while Alyssa Faragher added a single.
Natalie Mitchell bulged the twine twice while Katie Veldhuisen and Blair Harnett also tallied for Al’s (2-6-1).
Hailey Beaudry garnered the win in goal over Phyliss Pierson.
The two squads will meet once again on Tuesday night (Aug. 6) at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Francis Sports Field (weather permitting).
