Eight local athletes from the Fort Frances Trampoline Club travelled to Thunder Bay last weekend to compete in the provincial qualifier at the Confederation College Bubble.
Kaela Hahkala placed first in the Prov. 1 female trampoline category to earn a gold medal while Leah Nowak placed third for a bronze medal in the same category.
In the Prov. 2 female trampoline category, Heather Dobransky placed first for a gold medal. John Grynol placed second in the Prov. 2 male trampoline category to earn silver.
Jennifer Cooper took second in the Prov. 3 female trampoline category for a silver medal.
Meanwhile, Susie Grynol took the gold medal in the junior women’s Double-Mini trampoline competition. Cooper won the silver medal in the same category.
At the regional level, our beginner trampolinists also did very well. Dorothy Johnson was awarded a gold medal after finishing first in the cadet category while Kelly Moulik won gold in the senior women’s competition.
While in Thunder Bay, Susie Grynol also qualified as a provincial trampoline and Double Mini-trampoline judge while Joel Perron qualified as a national level trampoline judge.
Both judged the Thunder Bay meet along with John Hamilton (the superior judge from Burlington), Kritina Herdman, Michelle Kiely and Kristen Welsh from Thunder Bay, and Betty Grynol from Fort Frances.
Susie Grynol, Hillary Morgan, and Jennifer Cooper will now prepare for the provincial trampoline championships March 27 in Burlington.
In other news, the Fort Frances Gymnastics Academy is selling tickets on a 1999 Astro mini van, a trip for four to Disney World, and three video cameras.
The draw will take place April 17 at the men’s provincial championships. Proceeds will help fund the coach.
Tickets are available at the gymnastics club, from club members, or from Bonnie Blue and Tammi’s Flowers.
