Spikers see
silver finish
The hoops were golden for both Muskie boys’ basketball teams Friday in Dryden.
The senior boys thumped the Kenora Broncos 66-36 in their NorWOSSA final while the juniors bombed the host Eagles 71-34 in theirs.
The seniors now advance to the NWOSSAA playoffs beginning this Friday (Feb. 26) against the Thunder Bay champs, who will be determined tomorrow night (Feb. 23).
The senior squad forged ahead 19-4 after the first quarter and led 34-16 at the half while the juniors led 24-4 after the first quarter and then 39-8 at the half.
But it wasn’t a golden finish for both Muskie volleyball teams Friday in Dryden.
Although the juniors and seniors each bounced Kenora in their respective semi-finals, neither could find an answer for Dryden in the finals.
The seniors banished Kenora 3-0 before being stopped by their hosts 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, and 25-9) to settle for NorWOSSA silver.
The juniors, meanwhile, won a tight one over Kenora 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-22, and 25-21) and hung tough against Dryden before being swept 3-0 (27-25, 26-24, and 25-12).
The juniors held leads late in both of the first two sets against Dryden. They were up 20-15 in the first before the Eagles charged back, and had nosed ahead 19-18 in the second when Dryden again regrouped and captured the set.
Dryden was just too strong in the third, jumping out to a 9-1 lead to seal the league crown.
