‘Glow pucks’ could save big bucks

The Town of Fort Frances has received input from a consultant in Southern Ontario regarding ways to reduce costs at the Ice for Kids and ’52 Canadians arenas.
A report received late last week suggested lowering lighting by 60 percent on the ice surfaces of both rinks could be a major cost-saver for the community.
For hockey games, a special “glow puck” could be implemented, along with night-vision eyewear (pictured at left) for the officials.
No word yet on council’s opinion on such a move, though anonymous sources said local officials might take a dim view of the idea.
