It was goals, goals, and more goals for the Muskie girls’ hockey team, who bombed Red Lake 10-0 on Friday night in Ear Falls and then 7-1 on Saturday afternoon in Cochenour.
Goal scorers in both games were unavailable by press time.
But it also was more bad luck for the already painfully thin Fort High roster as blueliner Ashley Whalen caught a rut with her skate and went down with a serious knee injury that may sideline her for the rest of the season.
The loss of Whalen was compounded by Muskie assistant coach Al Barr’s announcement that a “mutual agreement” was reached between the team and forwards Teresa and Darcy Smith and Rebecca Cornell that won’t see the trio join the squad.
The three had taken part in what was deemed a tryout game in a 3-1 loss to the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints in Kenora back on Jan. 11.
That left the Muskies with only 12 skaters going into last night’s exhibition game across the river against the International Falls Broncos (the outcome was unavailable by press time).
The girls’ next NorWOSSA game is Feb. 3 in Kenora, then they’ll host St. Thomas Aquinas for a two-game exhibition series Feb. 6-7.
