Life has been busy both at home and on the road for various teams in the Fort Frances Girls’/Women’s Hockey Association of late.
The Fort Frances AtoMC Icebergs and the Fort Frances Tim Hortons Bruins both participated in a tournament in Kenora on Nov. 27-29, with the Icebergs coming away with the bronze medal.
The Bruins, meanwhile, latched onto fifth place.
Kiera Fairnington and Julia Guertin had the goals as the Icebergs won their opener 2-1 over the APHA Polar Bears before falling 3-1 to the Kenora Sting, with Guertin netting the lone tally.
The Icebergs regrouped to dump the Dryden Riptide 3-1 to claim third place, with Guertin, Piper Miller, and Hayden Allam notching the goals.
As for the Bruins, they were blanked 3-0 by the Dakota Lazers Red squad in their first game.
They jumped back into contention by beating the Polar Bears 3-1 on two goals by Addison Chown and a single from Aelise Lucas-Engberg.
But the Kenora Falcons edged the Bruins 2-1 in their final preliminary-round game, with Marlee Bliss netting the lone marker.
In the fifth-place game against the Emo Express, Chown and Davilyn Miller each lit the lamp twice, while Harmony Yerxa and Bliss added singles, in a 6-0 victory.
Savannah Marchuk earned the shutout.
Back on familiar ice, the Icebergs dumped the Express 8-0 on Dec. 3.
Guertin netted a hat trick while Fairnington added a pair of goals.
Allam, Emma Bodnarchuk, and Hailey “Hollywood Jr.” Bombay notched singles while Madison Bliss got the shutout.
In other games that evening, the Fort Frances Novice Lions whitewashed the Bruins 2-0.
Logan McPherson and Jersey Rose had the goals for the Lions while Harper Gunderson earned the shutout.
In PeeWee action, the Fort Frances BDO Stars and Fort Frances Esso battled to a scoresless draw, with Isabella Fortes and Madison Bliss getting the shoutouts.
Earlier in the week, the Stars beat the Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association’s Family Motorsports team 3-1.
Marti Woods scored a pair of goals for BDO while Makenna Hill had the other one.
Then on Monday, the Stars dropped fell 3-1 decision to the FFMHA’s Atom Rainy Lake Attack.
Marissa Brown provided the offence for BDO.
On Tuesday, Marlee Bliss had a hat trick in a 3-0 triumph for the Bruins over the Lions.
Marchuk registered the shutout.
