Close finishes, outstanding performances, and a first-time thrill highlighted recent action in the Fort Frances Girls’/Women’s Hockey Association.
The Fort Frances Bantam ‘AA’ Leafs mauled the Baudette junior varsity girls’ team 13-2 back on Dec. 20.
Danielle Cridland had the memorable moment of the game—scoring her first-ever competitive goal in helping the Leafs to victory.
Hannah DeGagne led the way with a hat trick while Maighyn DeGagne, Kelsey Langtry, and Siobhan Mackintosh each scored twice.
Khali DeGagne and Bryanna Dustin added singles.
Fort Frances Bantam M&M Meats blanked the Emo Express 2-0 on Dec. 22.
Alex Gartzke and Mackintosh scored while Ziggy Skead earned the shutout.
After two weeks off for the Christmas break, action returned last Tuesday (Jan. 6) with M&M Meats grabbing another 2-0 win—this time over the Fort Frances Lakewood Tire Eagles.
Gartzke and Emily Kaun got the goals while Skead again was perfect between the pipes.
Fort Frances Bantam Super 8 then clipped the Eagles’ wings by a 7-1 count last Wednesday (Jan. 7).
Madison Morrison netted a hat trick, Maighyn DeGagne had a pair of goals, and Khali DeGagne and Rihanna Roach added singles.
Kendra Calder notched the lone goal for the Eagles.
That same night, M&M Meats continued its strong play with a 5-2 triumph over the Green’s Brandsource Hawks PeeWee squad from the Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association.
Hannah LeDrew fired a hat trick, with Hannah DeGagne and Kaun chipping in with a goal apiece.
Adam George had both goals for the Hawks.
Last Thursday, the Fort Frances Atom Calder Legal Eagles went toe-to-toe with Fort Frances Fine Foods Fury (FFMHA) and came away with a 5-4 victory.
Savannah McGinnis scored twice for the Eagles, with Jorja Pope, Kayleigh Walton, and Kianna Antonick netting singles.
Jackson Tucker scored all four goals for the Fury.
Meanwhile, the Fort Frances PeeWee BDO Canada Stars battled to a 2-2 draw against Robinson’s Rush.
Rebecca Jourdain and Payten Tuesday scored for BDO while Alex Carter and Nolan Antonick replied for the Rush.
On Saturday, M&M Meats again blanked the Emo Express 2-0, with Gartke and Mackintosh once again getting the goals.
The Stars played to another tie Saturday—this time a 3-3 standoff with the Emo Express.
Brianna Redsky notched a pair for BDO, with Abby Roach getting the other one.
The Stars the came right back Sunday with a doubleheader against Warroad (Mn.), losing 4-1 and 4-3.
Shallin Scott had BDO’s goal in the opener, then scored again in the second game along with Redsky and Brianna McDonald.
Also Sunday, the Legal Eagles got the better of the DC Giants (FFMHA) with a 6-2 triumph.
McGinnis and Kianna Antonick each scored twice while Trista Ann Bruyere and Makenna Hill added one goal each.
Teagan Wrolstad notched both tallies for the Giants.
Monday action saw Fort Frances Novice Tim Hortons blank the Emo Express 6-0.
Piper Miller led the way with four goals while Marlee Bliss and Emma Bodnarchuk had one apiece.
Madison Bliss earned the shutout in goal.
