Fifth-year Mount Allison Mountie football player Jock Gemmell has been named a 2006-07 second-team All-Canadian.
The 6’1”, 195-pound defensive back earned numerous accolades over the course of the season due to his penchant for making big plays at critical junctures of games.
He was named Mount Allison’s Athlete of the Week (Oct. 2-9) and Athlete of the Month (October), and twice earned Atlantic University Sports’ Defensive Player of the Week honours.
He also earned national recognition when he was named Canadian Interuniversity Sports’ National Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 2-9).
Gemmell also was chosen as an AUS conference all-star defensive back this season.
The Stratton native tied for first in the AUS with three interceptions and had the most interception return yardage in the conference with 83.
That included a 30-yard return for a touchdown in a Week 5 win over the St. Francis Xavier X-Men that ended a four-year winless drought for the Mounties.
