Gavels do well at Vermilion Bay

The Gavel snowmobile racing team did well at an NWRA competition in Vermilion Bay last weekend, bringing home several top three finishes in various classes.
John Gavel finished third in the final of the Sport Fan division after coming fourth in the heat. And he wound up fourth in the final of the Masters division, slipping from his second-place showing in the heat.
Gavel also finished first in the heats of both the Plus 30 and Plus 30 Open divisions before faltering to sixth and fourth in the finals, respectively.
Robbie Gavel, meanwhile, finished second in the final of the Sport Fan class after a third-place showing in the heat. He also came third in the final of the Sport Open division, though he had won the heat.
He wrapped up the weekend with a pair of fourth-place finishes in the Sport 600 and Sport 500 classes. He had been second in the heat of the latter division.
And Danny Gavel was second in the heat of the Sport Fan division before turning it on in the final—taking the checkered flag.
Results from the other three classes he competed in were not available by press time, but it is known he didn’t manage any other top three finishes.
The Gavels also raced in Thief River Falls, Mn. on Jan. 17-18, where John turned in the best result with a second-place showing in the final of the Beginner Fan class.
He was eighth and ninth in the finals of the Plus 35 and Plus 40 divisions, respectively.
Robbie had a pair of eighth-place finishes in the finals of the Sport Open and Sport 600 classes to go along with a 12th-place showing in the Sport Stock division.
Finally, Danny was 11th in the final of the Sport Open class. He failed to qualify for the finals of the Sport 600 and Sport Stock divisions.
In related news, Thatcher Haggberg of Nestor Falls also competed at Thief River Falls, taking fifth in the final of the Pro 600 class and then sixth in the Pro Open division.
