The Muskie boys’ hockey team prevailed with its season on the line.
Chase McGuire notched a hat trick as Fort High evened the best-of-three NorWOSSA final with a convincing 6-1 win last night against the host Dryden Eagles.
That sets up the winner-take-all Game 3, which will be held Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The winner will advance to the OFSAA ‘AA’ championship March 9-12 in Pembroke/Petawawa.
“They’ve got to go in sooner or later,” a relieved Muskie head coach Jamie Davis said after his team piled up the shots for a second-straight game against Eagles’ goalie Brady Desserre.
Desserre was stupendous in Dryden’s 3-1 victory in Game 1 here Monday night, but fell victim to a Muskie offence that wasn’t looking to chalk up style points yesterday.
“There wasn’t a nice goal all night,” chuckled Davis.
“It was mostly just getting to loose pucks in front of the net.”
McGuire opened the scoring at 15:57 of the first, but Dryden tied it with 28 seconds left in the frame.
But the Muskies scored five unanswered goals after that to send the series back here.
McGuire netted his second in the middle frame, followed two minutes later by Graeme Kitt.
Jarred Taylor, Tyler VanUden, and McGuire rounded out the scoring in the third.
Dylan Ossachuk earned the win in goal.
