Four Fort Frances bowlers will represent Sunset Country at the provincial rolloffs in Thunder Bay over Easter weekend in April.
At stake there is a trip to the national championship.
Carla Hanzuk and Carolyn Stamarski made the ladies’ team after coming second and third respectively among the women at the regional qualifier here over the weekend.
Hanzuk finished with a 4,721 total for 20 games while Stamarski was just four pins back at 4,717.
They also will compete in the ladies’ singles event at Thunder Bay.
Meanwhile, Dino Morelli Sr. earned the sixth and final berth on the Sunset Country men’s team with a 4,741 total while Janet Ellis, who placed eighth overall among the women (4,353), made the mixed squad.
Rounding out the women’s team is Atikokan’s Krys Bednarski (4,811), and Carol Peterson (4,561), Tammy Woitowicz (4,478), and Sonja Mousseau (4,431) of Dryden.
Joining Morelli on the men’s team is the all-Dryden contingent of Ron Stansfield (5,090), Dale Jensson (4,906), Brad Alexander (4,871), Darryl Rollins (4,870), and Charlie Alexander (4,810).
Bowling with Ellis on the mixed team is Shelley Petsnick (4,376), Elaine Davidson (4,244), Darcy Hyatt (4,690), and Roger Peterson (4,645) of Dryden, Ric Kitzul (4,714) of Atikokan, and Kevin Blake (4,662) of Kenora.
Hanzuk said she’s excited about the talent level of the Sunset Country teams heading to Thunder Bay–and didn’t mind having to bowl for nearly 10 hours on Sunday.
“I didn’t mind because when you’re out there, you’re gunning for something and every game counts,” said Hanzuk, who was a member of the Sunset Country mixed team last year.
“You have good games and bad games but it all works out. All of our teams going there are excellent,” she enthused.
Ellis, who has made it to the provincials in the past, said she was pleased with her performance.
“I bowled really well and I’m looking forward to going to the provincial finals,” she remarked.
Other local bowlers taking part in the regional qualifier here were Rick Stamarski (4,526), Kim Gushulak (4,198), Toni Bale (4,136), Amy Gushulak (4,060), and Shirley Jensson (4,045).
