Four Aquanauts off to Winnipeg

The start of the long-course month of competition gets underway this weekend as four members of the Fort Frances Aquanauts will be taking part in the Golden Plains Invitational meet in Winnipeg.
Donovan Taylor, Levi Rittau, Regan Danylchuk, and Adam Stromberg will be competing in their usual set of events as they look to set further times for the May Invitational in Thunder Bay at the end of the month.
“Both Donovan and Levi did long-course events in the Division III’s, but Adam and Regan haven’t raced a long-course race in about a year so that’ll be quite interesting,” noted Aquanaut head coach Dawnn Taylor.
“We were hoping to have Mitchell Riordon take part in the meet this weekend, as well, but he’s still healing up from his wrist injury and we want to make sure he’s ready for the May [Invitational] in Thunder Bay,” she added.
With the May Invitational looming, and Donovan Taylor’s upcoming trip to Halifax to represent Team Ontario in a meet against swimmers from Quebec and Nova Scotia, Dawnn Taylor will be using this meet to build towards the last couple of events of the swim season.
“What we’ll be looking for is strategic swimming as opposed to just racing,” she explained.
“Hopefully, during the course of this year, we’ve instilled in our swimmers the form of building themselves up during the course of a race, as opposed to just trying to speed their way through it.”
