Fort wrestlers qualify for state finals

They weren’t about to be welcome mats for their mat opponents.
Zayne Basaraba and Landon Dressaire-Hammond of Fort Frances both finished in second place in their respective divisions while representing Mighty Mustangs Wrestling based in International Falls at a meet in Grand Rapids, Mn., this past Saturday.
Basaraba, despite sustaining an eyebrow gash during competition, took the silver medal position in the kindergarten 50 to 55-pound division, while Dressaire-Hammond did the same in the Grade 1 70 to 75-pound category in his competitive debut.
Both have now qualified for the Minnesota Jaycee State Tournament on April 7-8 in Grand Rapids.
Dressaire-Hammond’s older brother, Zachary Hammond, also fought for the first time and placed a respectable fourth in the Grade 2 65 to 70-pound weight class.
