The Fort/Kenora Junior Squash Challenge took place this past Saturday at the Memorial Sports Centre.
The local contingent, consisting of Anniss Seid, Mike Brady, Ryan Brady, Shawn Brady, Bryson Skirten, Eric Bois, Robert Stevens, Matthew Roen, and Anika and Kimika Alexander, defeated their Kenora counterparts 34 total games to 32.
The new par system was adopted to 15 instead of 11 for three-game sets.
The championship came down to the match between Seid and Wetendorf.
Seid prevailed 2-1 by scores of 16-14, 13-15, and 19-17 in an extremely tight and well-played final.
The Fort crew will visit Kenora in April to complete the home-and-away challenge.
In other news, the Sunset Country Squash Club will be travelling to Winnipeg on Jan. 30 for the Manitoba Closed tournament, then is home for the annual Wesley Derksen, LL.B Open on Feb. 13-15.
