Fort girls win Warroad jamboree

The local Skates & Blades/International Floor Coverings girls’ hockey team won a three-team jamboree in Warroad, Mn. last Saturday after finishing with a 2-0 record.
The Fort team played strong defensively in both victories, led by the stellar goaltending of Angela Shoemaker, in downing Roseau 5-1 and then shutting out the host squad 2-0.
Tied at 0-0 heading into the third period against Warroad, Kristen Kelly, assisted by Meghan Bell, finally put the Fort on the scoreboard at the 12:44 mark.
Then they sealed the win when Katelyn Kelly, assisted by Melanie Pierce, scored less than a minute later.
Ironically, Skates & Blades/International Floor Coverings won the game despite being outshot by an incredible 30-3 margin.
Against Roseau, Heather Dutton opened the scoring in the first, assisted by Ashley Ryan. Then Amanda Roy, Krystine Marchuk, Bell, and Pierce all scored to make the final 5-1.
Marchuk also added a pair of assists in that game.
