From Jan. 2-5 the Curl Fort Frances Community Centre hosted the Northern Ontario under 20 Provincial Curling Championship. The teams participating came from across the region to participate coming from as far away as Sudbury, Timmins, and North Bay to compete as well as some from closer like Thunder Bay and Kakabeka, team Tucker from Fort Frances was the lone local team participating in the qualifier for the U20 nationals in Summerside, PE in March.
Team Tucker – made up of Emma Tucker, Aili Chabot, Allie Saciuk, Tia Wagar and Molly Tucker – unfortunately went 0-4. The winners of the tournament were Team Toner out of the Sudbury NCU Curling Club for the women. Team Rajala also from Sudbury won the men’s side of the tournament but runners up team Winters from the North Bay Granite Club will also compete at nationals as Team Northern Ontario Two.
