The Muskie boys’ hockey team opened the OFSAA ‘A/AA’ championships on a winning note this morning, defeating the St. Martin Mustangs (Mississauga) 4-1.
Hunter Leishman, Tyler Mosbeck, Chris Bobczyinski, and Robbie Rea were the goal scorers.
Fort High—ranked seventh in the 20-team field—return to action tomorrow at 8:15 a.m. (EDT) against the host Holy Cross Hurricanes (Peterborough).
Meanwhile, the Fort Frances Lakers are a win away from advancing to their first SIJHL final in franchise history.
The squad edged the host Dryden Ice Dogs 4-3 to take a commanding 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven semi-final series.
Adam Wensley’s power-play marker in the second period proved to be the game-winner as Lakers’ goalie Tyler Ampe stymied the Ice Dogs’ shooters the rest of the way.
Wensley also added an assist, with Jaret Leclair, Byron Katapaytuk, and Jon Carlson netting the other goals.
The Lakers can sweep the Ice Dogs tonight when Game 4 goes in Dryden starting at 7:30 p.m.
