Talk about starting the new year off right.
The NorFab Flames girls’ PeeWee hockey team dazzled their way to gold at the 2010 Best of Times Fargo Girls International Hockey Classic in Fargo, N.D. over the weekend.
The locals opened action on New Year’s Day against the Orono Spartans, whom they dispatched by an 8-0 margin.
Madisyn DeGagne set off the avalanche midway through the first period en route to notching a hat trick while Abby Perreault, Amber Jourdain, Samantha McKinnon, Sydney Johnson, and Madyson Weir all notched singles.
Shanleigh Fryer and Kate Parsons teamed up for the whitewash in goal.
The Flames then put up another eight-spot on the day, shocking the host Fargo Lightning 8-1.
Jourdain led the way with an eye-popping five goals while Jessica Coran’s pair and Kendal Bruyere’s single rounded out the scoring.
Fargo scored with 2:50 to go in the third but it was much too little, too late.
In their third game, played Jan. 2, the Flames bested their outbursts from the previous day, dethroning Winnipeg’s Richmond Kings by a 10-0 score.
Jourdain once again led the surge with four goals while DeGagne added a hat trick.
Myla Angus, Bruyere, and Weir rounded out the scoring.
The Flames then earned their second shutout later on in the day by blanking the Fort Garry Flyers (Winnipeg) 4-0.
DeGagne tallied what turned out to be the game-winner came just 24 seconds in en route to her second hat trick of the tournament.
Jourdain had the other goal to put the Flames in the championship game.
The title match had an appropriate venue, taking place at the 5,000-seat Urban Plains Centre—home to the USHL’s Fargo Force.
NorFab lined up against the Bismarck Chill in the final and in the epic match of hot against cold, the Flames were left blazing—earning a 6-1 victory to secure the tourney title.
DeGagne scored her first of three goals just eight seconds into the game while Coran, Jourdain, and Weir pitched in with one each.
Meanwhile, Parsons and Fryer kicked out several Chill shots, with the only one to cross the line coming off a skate with 3:03 to play.
