The NorFab Flames made sure the drive from Dryden wasn’t worth the trip for their opponents.
The local PeeWee girls’ squad blazed their way to a 4-0 victory here Saturday afternoon on the strength of two-goal performances by Amber Jourdain and Amy Penner.
Madyson Weir and Madisyn DeGagne drew assists while Kate Parsons stood tall in goal to earn the shutout.
The Flames put immense pressure on Dryden for much of the game, especially as Jourdain and Penner tallied just 1:44 apart midway through the first period.
The hosts were backed up by Parsons whenever the visitors were able to break free of the defensive zone.
Unfortunately, the story was nearly the opposite for the local Dynamic Homes Hurricanes Atom girls’ squad, who fell 3-0 to International Falls on Saturday afternoon at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
The Hurricanes had held their cross-border opponents in check early on, working on the strength of solid goaltending by Harleigh Brow-Rose and Carly McKinnon on a pair of breakaway saves.
But the Falls eventually found ways to beat the goalies, chipping shots above them after being continually stymied along the ice.
