Fitness centre to hold 5-K run

Energy Fitness Centre is holding its first-ever “5-K in May” on Saturday, May 5 starting at 8:30 a.m. at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.
It’s a five-km walk/run open to all age groups, with proceeds being donated to the “Just Imagine” fundraiser to honour a pledge that was made during the campaign.
Participants need only complete a registration form and make a minimum donation of $20 to take part in this fun walk/run. Charitable receipts will be issued.
There also will be a one-km mini-mite run for children aged 14 and under. Registration is only a toonie.
“We want this to be a fun family event,” enthused Jackie Lampi-Hughes, the owner of Energy Fitness Centre.
All registered participants will be entered into a draw to win great prizes, including a one-year membership at Energy Fitness Centre for adults and a brand new bike for children.
T-shirts also will be given out to the first 100 people to pre-register.
“It’s a great opportunity for anyone who is currently training for a 10-K or marathon to get out and do a 5-K with a large group,” added Lampi-Hughes.
The run/walk will start and end at La Verendrye Hospital, with refreshments to be available along the route. There also will be pace bunnies to keep the more experienced runner or beginner apprised of their time.
“We wanted to do something for the ‘Just Imagine’ campaign to help purchase a CT Scanner,” Lampi-Hughes said about the idea to have the run.
“It’s a healthy way to help a great cause,” she remarked.
Registration forms are available at Energy Fitness Centre or the Riverside Foundation for Health Care office. Call 274-0415 or 274-4803 for more information.
