The first community sail of the year, hosted by the Rendezvous Yacht Club, is a go for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
There will be two meeting places for anyone interested–the dock at La Place Rendez-Vous here and the one in Ranier, east of International Falls.
The free ride will include a trip around Sand Bay that will take at least 30 minutes, depending on the weather, said club vice-commodore Diane Wessels.
The club has been providing community sails for the past 10 years as a way to get people interested in the sport.
“We do it as a community outreach. A lot of the current members were introduced to the club from community sail night,” noted Wessels.
People are welcome to bring along children and ask any questions of the captains on sailing. Or they can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
There will be informal social gatherings at Woody’s or the Rendez-Vous dining lounge afterwards.
Last year, the club took out a total of 170 people. On any given Tuesday night, their number can vary from a handful to 20.
Starting up the community sail this year has faced several delays due to safety concerns over the recent high levels of waters and poor sailing conditions.
But Wessels added the water has gone down considerably and they hope to run the weekly sail now until the end of summer.
