Finalists decided for soccer championships

The 2012 Borderland Soccer League season will wrap up tonight at St. Francis Field, with both the men’s and women’s championship games set to get underway at 6:30 p.m.
In the men’s title game, the top two sides in the regular season will be going head-to-head, as the top seed and defending league champion Manitou Forest Products will be going up against the second ranked International Travel Services.
Manitou advanced into the finals on Tuesday night thanks to a convincing 5-0 win over the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs, with Mike Sande leading the way by picking up a hat-trick.
Kyle Herr and Jon Sinclair also scored in the victory, while Jameson Shorteed earned the shutout.
As for International Travel Services, they punched their ticket into the championship contest by edging out Pharmasave 3-2.
Garnet Cornell potted a pair of goals to help his team get the win, with Cameron Gobeil also finding the back of the net.
Alan Albao scored both markers for Pharmasave in the loss.
Meanwhile, the women’s championship game will also see the top two teams in the regular season battling it out, with the number one seed Boston Pizza facing off with the second ranked Taggs’ Source for Sports.
Having finished the regular season with a perfect record, Boston Pizza continued their winning ways in last night’s semi-final, as they throttled the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs 9-0.
Laureen Peters led the way in the victory with a four goal outing, with Andrea Bell-Perreault, Coleen Hogan, Alyssa Holliday, Maggie Jean, and Adrienne Smith also scoring.
Amy Wilson-Hands and Jessica Wilson split time between the pipes to earn the clean sheet.
Taggs’, meanwhile, advanced to the championship game with a 4-1 victory over Al’s Racquet Stringing in the other semi-final.
Courtney Roach potted a pair to lead the way for the winners, with Sara Roach and Wynonna Kavanaugh also chipping on offense.
Sara Coish had the lone goal for Al’s.
