The Border Figure Skating Club will perform Disney’s version of “Beauty and the Beast” when it stages its annual ice show this weekend at Memorial Arena.
Close to 100 skaters, aged three to 17, will take to the ice for two shows, running between 90 minutes and two hours. The first goes Saturday at 7 p.m. while the second is slated Sunday at 2 p.m.
Tickets cost $7 for adults, and $4 for seniors and children under 12. A weekend pass costs $10.
Show co-ordinator Tanis Mann said this is the first time they’ve tried to perform a play in their season-ending show in the last five years.
“The ice show will be much different from last year,” she enthused.
Mann said the club has tried to market its show much more this season in hopes of improving on last year’s attendance.
“Last year, we had around 200 so this year we’re hoping for double that,” said Mann. “You can always have more [people in the stands].”
The ice show also gives the skaters a chance to end the season on a “fun note,” said Mann, adding they have been on the ice two hours a day, six days a week, for the past two weeks preparing for it.
They’ve also been practising upstairs at Memorial Arena and at St. Michael’s School.
Paul Matheson of Barrie, the guest skater for the show, will play the “Prince” alongside Carrie Selin, who will star as “Belle.”
The pair also will perform a dance demonstration just prior to the first intermission.
