Ferris holds off Paull

After more than an inch of rain overnight Thursday, and fairly wet weather again Friday, track preparations at the Emo Speedway were difficult to maintain Saturday.
However, after plenty of running in, the WISSOTA AMSOIL Dirt Track Series was ready to race.
Thirteen cars were entered in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds field, which saw Brady Caul winning the first heat and Anthony Visser taking the second one.
Then in the feature race, only 12 cars were able to start as Tridell Champlin blew the high gear in the transmission on the last lap of his heat.
Once the green flag dropped, there was plenty of fighting for position between Chuck Lambert, Caul, and Ken Anderson. But after running third for a while, Lambert got involved with a lapped car, which inadvertently blew his right rear tire.
Mechanical problems also forced other cars to retire early.
With a few laps to go, Anderson was able to maintain a decent lead over the field and go on to win his first feature race of the season.
Meanwhile, eight Street Stocks entered the track Saturday, including a couple of new additions to the lineup.
Returning drivers Chris Shine, Char Nicolson, and Don Craig took it to the track against Richard Visser Rick Bourre, Tylar Wilson, Terry Martin, and Carlee Bosma.
Craig took quick advantage of his first trip this year to the Emo Speedway as he took the heat win, with Tylar Wilson coming in second.
In the feature, Visser saw himself on the outside of Martin, who was the previous week’s feature winner.
Visser took a quick commanding lead over Martin while Bosma started moving up the field after starting seventh. After a couple of cautions, Martin overheated and was forced to enter the infield, finishing his night early.
Shine then moved into second, but minor mistakes left him too far behind to mount a challenge against Visser, who remained smooth all night.
Finally, Gavin Paull wanted to make it three in a row in the WISSOTA Modifieds division. However, fellow drivers Greg Ferris and Dwayne Pelepetz thought otherwise.
Starting from the pole position was Denny Trimble and outside of him was Joey Galloway.
Galloway blew the field away right off the start by taking a straightaway lead during the early laps of the feature race. Glen Strachan, who started fourth, was in a quick second place as Trimble had troubles.
Behind Strachan was Ferris, who was flying around the corners.
Galloway then started to develop a push in the corners, which gave Strachan and Ferris some chances to catch up. A few cautions ensued, but Galloway maintained his lead.
Paull, who started seventh, was now near the front. Galloway started to get into lapped traffic and bumped Ken Anderson, causing himself to spin out.
Galloway subsequently was sent to the back of the pack for causing the caution.
Ferris, Paull, and Pelepetz soon were able to get by Strachan for the top three. The race had a long run but the leaders hit lapped traffic again.
Paull was gaining on Ferris, but while lapping cars, Ron Korpi’s car drove from the bottom of the track to the top—forcing Paull to slam on the brakes.
As a result, Ferris was able to grab another strong lead. Paull started to get challenged by Pelepetz, but was able to hold him off by a wheel coming to the finish.
Ferris went on to win his first feature race of the season at Emo, which he considered “a little lucky.”
Heat winners for the WISSOTA Modifieds were Jason Anderson and Paull.
A reminder that this Saturday’s races will feature a bicycle “dash for cash” at intermission.
