Fawcett returns to Eskimo coaching staff

Former Muskie offensive co-ordinator Scott Fawcett has decided to return as the special teams coach with the CFL’s Edmonton Eskimos.
Fawcett, 40, resigned as special teams coach with the Hamilton Tiger Cats on Monday, a position he acquired only in December when he made a move to the steel city to join former Eskimo head coach Ron Lancaster.
Dave Jamieson, the Eskimos’ media relations spokesperson, confirmed yesterday morning that Fawcett will re-assume his role as special teams coach with the team immediately.
“It came down to where we were trying to sell the house, and whether it was the market or what, we couldn’t sell it, and at the same time, we couldn’t find a place in Hamilton,” Fawcett said yesterday afternoon just after the CFL draft wrapped up.
“Ron Lancaster has graciously allowed me to move back to Edmonton, and there’s no other place in Canada we would rather be,” he enthused.
“My wife and I love [Edmonton] a lot, and we have made a lot of good friends here,” Fawcett added. “It certainly wasn’t a situation we were looking to leave but when Ron offered me the job in Hamilton, [my wife and I] decided to take it.”
Fawcett said he is looking forward to re-joining the Eskimos’ staff under the new tandem of head coach Kay Stephenson and GM Tom Higgins, and is excited at the prospects for the coming season.
“We went through the draft and got everyone we wanted, and we have a great core of players returning from last year,” he remarked.
Edmonton had success on special teams under Fawcett last season, leading the CFL in punt and kickoff return coverage. The Eskimos also were second in the league in punt return yardage with 1,020.
Besides here in Fort Frances, Fawcett has had previous coaching stints with the Kenora Broncos, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Eastern Washington University, and the Calgary Dinosaurs.
