With a full slate of action scheduled yesterday evening, and a few make-up games still needing to be completed, the race for the playoffs in the Rainy River District Fastball League is coming down to the home stretch.
Heading into last night’s contests, the results of which were not known as of press time, the Big Grassy Braves held on to the coveted top seed for the 12-team knock-out playoff bracket, which is slated to get underway next Tuesday (July 24).
The Braves (13-2) lost for just the second time this season, falling 5-3 to the Barwick Blue Knights in a tightly-contested affair last Thursday night.
But the team bounced back with a narrow 6-5 triumph over the Big Island Huskies on Monday.
The Blue Knights (11-4) were right behind the Braves heading into their tilt last night with the league leaders.
Making up the rest of the top half of the league were Beef’s Warriors (10-3), the Rainy River Royals (10-6-1), the Stratton Eagles (9-7), and the defending RRDFL champion Sight & Sound Wolves (8-6-1).
Right behind the Wolves in the standings are the Huskies and the Couchiching Raiders, who both sport 8-8 records.
The Raiders have been the hottest team in the RRDFL since the second half of the season began last month, winning seven-straight games to rocket up the standings.
Rounding out the league are the Northwest Bay Chieftains (5-11), the Sabaskong Cubs (4-12), the Manitou Thunderbirds (4-12), and the Sabaskong Lakers (2-14).
