Fastball playoffs starting tonight

The Rainy River District Fastball League’s playoffs begin tonight, with six of its seven teams pairing off in the double-elimination tournament.
The second-place Barwick Blue Knights will host sixth-place Big Island Huskies while third-place Rainy River Royals will welcome the last-place Sabaskong Cubs.
Finally, fourth-place Stratton Eagles and fifth-place Big Grassy Lightning will square off in Stratton in what should prove to be the closest first-round match-up as both teams sport records hovering around .500.
All games begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Sight & Sound Wolves, meanwhile, earned a first-round bye by virtue of having the best regular-season record.
They will see their first action here next Tuesday at 8 p.m. at VanJura against the winner of the Rainy River-Sabaskong match.
The playoff tournament will run each Tuesday and Thursday, with the championship game potentially going Aug. 23.
However, if a second final is needed, that will be played Aug. 28.
While Sight & Sound’s record makes them the favourites to win the RRDFL crown, they were in a similar situation last year when Barwick went undefeated through the playoffs to the finals before beating the Wolves in their second chance at the title.
