Fastball playoffs resume tonight

Sight & Sound will be trying to take their next step towards a “three-peat” when they face Big Grassy here tonight in the fourth round of the Rainy River District Fastball League playoffs.
Game time is slated for 8 p.m. at VanJura Stadium.
Sight & Sound, who finished the regular season in third place, are undefeated in the playoffs so far.
They opened the double-knockout format with a 16-6 win over sixth-place Big Island on home turf before earning a narrow 5-4 win over second-place Barwick there last Tuesday.
Then last Thursday, Sight & Sound went on the road and beat first-place Rainy River, who had been undefeated in 2005, by an 8-3 score, which sets up tonight’s match-up.
Should Sight & Sound win tonight, the Fort Frances-based squad could claim its third-straight RRDFL title with a victory Thursday night against the winner of tonight’s game between Rainy River and Stratton.
If Sight & Sound wins tonight but then loses Thursday, the team would have a second chance at capturing the league crown next Tuesday (Aug. 30).
Even if Sight & Sound loses tonight to Big Grassy, they still would not be eliminated because it would only be their first loss of the playoffs.
In that scenario, Big Grassy would play the winner of tonight’s Rainy River-Stratton game on Thursday, with that victor then meeting Sight & Sound next Tuesday for all the marbles.
