Fastball playoffs enter final four

And then there were four.
The final line-up of competitors in the Rainy River District Fastball League playoffs will consist of the Emo Bulldogs, the Barwick Blue Knights, Big Grassy, and Stratton.
The defending champion Bulldogs are the only undefeated team after they used a five-run burst in the sixth inning to break open a close game with the Barwick Blue Knights to win 11-3 last night at VanJura Stadium.
The entire batting order found their way on base. Third baseman Don Copenace unleashed a two run double to help take the lead for good.
Emo is now 3-0 in the double elimination tournament, and are the leading bet to win their fifth straight RRDFL title. They will play Big Grassy next Tuesday night at VanJura. Big Grassy gave Zig’s Place their second loss of the playoffs–and the way to the exit door–with a 7-1 romp last night. The Blue Knights still have a 2-1 record and will travel to Stratton, who eliminated Pinewood with a 7-1 win. Regular Pinewood pitcher John Desaulnier is in Kansas Division II World Series with his Fargo-based team and did not play leaving Clint Armstrong to pithc in his place. Stratton loaded the bases in the first and second innings, scored three in the latter.
“Clint isn’t their regular pitcher but he did a good job,” said Stratton shortstop Guy Arpin. “But we just picked away at them slowly. By no means was is an actual blowout.”
Teams will continue playing Tuesdays and Thursdays until all but one team suffers two losses.
