Four teams remain in the ‘A’ bracket while the other four have been relegated to the ‘B’ after the opening night of Rainy River District Fastball Association playoff action Tuesday.
The playoffs feature a doubleknockout format, with losing teams dropping down to the ‘B’ bracket and playing off until there is one left (a team with one loss) and one still standing in the ‘A’ bracket (an undefeated team).
The ‘A’ and ‘B’ squads then will face off, playing until one team has two losses and therefore is eliminated.
In Tuesday’s action, Sight & Sound beat Stratton 9-1, with Warren Voth getting the win. Andy “Beaker” Watson belted two homers to spark the victors while Voth and Grant Swire also added round-trippers.
Curtis Berg was tagged with the loss.
Meanwhile, Big Island downed Big Grassy 6-4, as Robert Handorgan earned the win against Bob Andy, while Barwick topped Pinewood 9-4, with George Oltsher picking up the win against Kirk Wood.
In the other game Tuesday night, Rainy River blanked Rainy Lake 3- 0. Murray Armstrong was the winning pitcher while Sheldon Kelly took the loss.
Rick Tymkin of Rainy River hit the game’s only home run.
Tonight’s action will see Big Island at Sight & Sound (8 p.m.), Barwick at Rainy River (6:30 p.m.), Stratton at Pinewood (6:30 p.m.), and Rainy Lake at Big Grassy (6:30 p.m.)
