Fastball awards given out

The Rainy River District Fastball League handed out its individual awards Friday.
Gus Copenace, the late Rick Copenace, and Carey Gosselin all were inducted in the league’s hall of fame.
Big Island’s Jesse Tom, who tied for the home run king award with Stratton’s Rob McGinnis (eight apiece), also collected the top shortstop prize.
The Gerry Harasymyk league MVP and top catcher award went to Barwick’s Kevin Gemmell.
Meanwhile, Big Grassy’s Jeff Morrison earned the top pitcher award for the second-straight season. Manager of the year went to Big Grassy’s Chris Jack while the utility award went to Travis Tom of Big Island.
The three all-star outfielders were Josh Mann (Barwick), Ryan Kirkrude (Big Grassy), and Dakota Andy (Big Island).
The top third baseman award went to Bill Copenace of Big Grassy, second base to his teammate, Chris Jack, and first base to Sight & Sound’s Derek McKinnon.
Dakoda Andy was named rookie of the year.
The Kingsley Downs/Gus Lindberg umpires’ choice award went to Brian Hook of Big Grassy.
Finally, the Shane Jarvis Sportmanship award was presented to Vaughn Wilson of Barwick.
