The Muskie girls’ and boys’ curling rinks both have started undefeated at the NWOSSAA playoffs in Thunder Bay.
The girls’ team of skip Erin Tomalty, third Tory Beaudry, second Anika Beaudry, and lead Andrea Schram opened play yesterday afternoon by nipping the defending OFSAA champion Sioux Lookout Warriors 6-5 in an extra end.
Tomalty made an open hit for one in the eighth to tie the game, then stole the winning point when Warriors’ skip Cassidy Romyn hit and rolled out with her last shot.
The Muskies then cruised to a 9-3 win over the Lake Superior High Stingers (Terrace Bay) last night.
Fort High improved to 3-0 with an 8-6 win over the Chapleau Raiders this morning.
Meanwhile, the Muskie boys’ team of skip Chris Silver, third Daniel Vandenbrand, second Jason Bazylewski, and lead Davis Jackson kicked things off by posting a pair of wins yesterday.
After doubling the Red Lake Rams 8-4 in their opener, the Muskies used a four-ender in the final end to top the Westgate Tigers (Thunder Bay) 11-8.
Fort High took on the Hammarskjold Vikings this afternoon, then will face the École secondaire Trillium Coyotes (Chapleau) tonight.
Round-robin play wraps up tomorrow morning.
Any tie-breakers needed to decide first or second place will be held in the afternoon.
The top two finishers at NWOSSAA will advance to the all-Ontarios on March 7-10 in North Bay.
