Ryan Faragher is back in the AHL after being called up by the San Diego Gulls late last Friday.
The 23-year-old Fort Frances-based goalie had just finished getting shelled for three goals on six shots before being pulled just 3:23 into Game 1 of the Utah Grizzlies’ 6-4 loss to the host Fort Wayne Komets in the second round of the ECHL playoffs.
That same night, though, the Gulls had their own misfortune while wrapping up their AHL quarter-final series with a 6-2 win in Game 5 against the Texas Stars.
Six minutes into the first period, San Diego defenceman Brandon Montour accidentally ran into Gulls’ goalie Anton Khudobin—forcing both players to leave the game.
Matt Hackett came on in relief to earn the victory.
But with Khudobin’s status questionable heading into Game 1 of tonight’s semi-final against the Ontario Reign, Faragher likely will be on the Gulls’ bench with Hackett ticketed to get the starting nod.
Faragher played five games with the Gulls earlier this season—going 2-3 with a 3.71 GAA and .891 save percentage.
