Fort Frances native and St. Cloud States Huskies sophomore goaltender Ryan Faragher helped his team make history in Toledo, Ohio yesterday afternoon, as the Huskies men’s hockey program qualified for the Frozen Four for the first time in school history.
The 22-year-old Faragher turned aside 20 shots in the Midwest Regional final as the fourth-seeded Huskies upended to the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks 4-1.
Freshman forward Joey Benik led the way up front with a pair of goals.
St. Cloud State started off the regional bracket with a convincing 5-1 win over the top-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday, where Benik was dominate once again as he scored two goals and had an assist.
Faragher was strong in goal once again for the Huskies, as he made 17 saves.
The Huskies will now prepare for the Frozen Four semi-final game in Pittsburgh, Penn. on Thursday, April 11 at 4:30 p.m. (EST), where they will take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats, who are the number one overall seed in this year’s tournament.
The winner of that contest will go up against either the Yale Bulldogs of the UMass Lowell River Hawks in the championship game on Saturday, April 13.
